Welcome to “Our BackYard”
Our Backyard is still under construction and we are working towards turning this dream into a reality very soon! We do still require support to achieve this so if you can make a donation towards our project please visit our fundraising page.
Our Backyard is a 5 acre Hobby Farm in Cooroibah (just out of Tewantin/Noosa) that has something for everyone of all ages and abilities including a 3 bedroom wheelchair accessible house called “Butterfly House” and in the future, when construction is complete, will be available for short or long term respite or family stays.
Our Backyard will soon be the new home of all Sunshine Butterflies activities including, music, drama, art, cooking and woodwork programs giving members plenty of room to spread their wings and shine. Participants will learn about Horticulture, Permaculture, Gardening skills, Environmental Activities, Aquaculture and Animal Care.
As a farm hand, members will help plan, pot, plant and maintain a number of different types of gardens; including an orchard and vegetable and herb beds as well as care for a number of farm animals that will include goats, pigs, chooks, a cow, a donkey, alpacas ad sheep just to name a few. Members can fish from the dams or have a go at catching yabbies that can be thrown on the BBQ for lunch. During the cooler months, participants will be able to enjoy toasting marshmallows and cooking damper over a fire to enjoy with some billy tea.
There will be lots of recreational activities to enjoy as well. Enjoy overnight camp outs at Our BackYard, experience the great outdoors and all activities the facility will have on offer. Members can play cricket, bocce and table tennis or throw a few hoops on the basketball court or put on the golf green.
There is lots of space to enjoy old fashioned favorites like tunnel ball and tug of war or grab a bike and ride around Our BackYard. If peddle power is not for them, they can enjoy a tractor ride where they can perch on a hay bale and ride through the paddocks hoping to spot a Koala at our Koala corridor located at the far end of our property.
Our BackYard will also have a purpose built Horticulture training facility for all members of the community including schools, training organisations and trainees and apprentices.
We hope to have our project complete within the year, so be sure to watch this space or follow us on Facebook to keep updated on Our BackYard.
