For many families on the Sunshine Coast, one question quietly lingers in the background of everyday life: What will happen to my child when I’m no longer here?
Sunshine Butterflies is working to answer that question with compassion, dignity and action, through the expansion of its heartfelt ‘Forever Homes’ project.
Set on a peaceful 15-acre property in Noosa, the initiative aims to create safe, stable and genuinely affordable housing for people with disability, offering not just a roof over their heads, but a true sense of home, belonging and lifelong support.
Housing on the Sunshine Coast is already out of reach for many, and for people with disability, the options are even more limited. ‘Forever Homes’ is about giving families peace of mind and giving our members a place where they will always be safe, supported, and valued.
The expansion plans are already underway, with Sunshine Butterflies working alongside Project Manager Peter McAvoy (McAvoy Management) and Town Planner Andrew Crawford (Therefore Group), both generously contributing their expertise pro bono to help bring the vision closer to reality.
The project will roll out in two stages:
- Stage One will provide immediate relief for 10 individuals currently waiting for housing, offering Supported Independent Living (SIL), transitional accommodation, and respite options.
- Stage Two will create self-contained homes for those who can live more independently, while still having support close by.
Sunshine Butterflies secured the adjoining 10-acre property in 2021 with a long-term vision, to build a community where people with disability are not just accommodated but truly included. Today, the existing home is already full, highlighting the urgent and growing demand.
We are calling on the community to help turn this vision into reality.
Help us raise $1 million that will directly contribute to stage one, creating opportunities, and securing futures.
Every donation, every act of support, helps us build not just houses but lifelong homes filled with care, connection and dignity.
Sunshine Butterflies is inviting individuals, businesses and community groups to contribute through donations, sponsorships or bequests.
Together, we can ensure that no family has to face the future alone and that every person has a place to call home, forever.
